Perched on the southwestern shore of Naushon Island in Gosnold, Massachusetts, Tarpaulin Cove Light has guided mariners through Vineyard Sound since 1891. This white conical tower replaced earlier beacons dating back to 1818, making the location one of the region’s longest-serving navigational points.

The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, its light visible for miles across the sound. As it sits on private Naushon Island, the lighthouse is not open to the public and visitors cannot climb the tower.
