Rising from the waters of New Haven Harbor, Southwest Ledge Light has guided mariners since 1877. This distinctive Victorian-style lighthouse features a striking red octagonal design, making it one of Connecticut’s most photogenic maritime structures. Built on a concrete foundation at the harbor’s entrance, it remains an active aid to navigation.

While the lighthouse is not open to public access, it offers excellent viewing opportunities from Long Wharf Park and the New Haven shoreline. Early morning and sunset provide optimal lighting for photography, with the lighthouse silhouetted against Long Island Sound.
