Sabine Pass Light

Built in 1857, the Sabine Pass Light stands in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, near the Texas border. This historic lighthouse once guided vessels through the treacherous Sabine Pass channel connecting the Gulf of Mexico to Sabine Lake. The tower survived Civil War skirmishes and devastating hurricanes that reshaped the surrounding coastline over the decades.

The lighthouse is no longer active and is not open to the public, so climbing is unavailable. Photographers will find the best light during golden hour, when the Gulf coast sky illuminates the weathered tower beautifully. Nearby attractions include the Sabine Pass Battleground State Historic Site just across the border in Texas and the wildlife-rich Sabine National Wildlife Refuge.
