Perched on remote Mistake Island off Maine’s rugged Down East coast, Moose Peak Light has guided mariners since 1827, making it one of Maine’s oldest lighthouses. The granite tower stands as a sentinel over treacherous waters where fog blankets the coastline more than 200 days annually—earning this stretch its reputation as one of the foggiest spots on the Eastern Seaboard.

The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation but is not open to public climbing. Visitors can view it by boat or kayak from nearby Jonesport.
