Mobile Point RangeRear Light

Mobile Point RangeRear Light

Mobile Bay · Alabama

Built in 1822, this historic rear range light stands at Fort Morgan in Fort Morgan, Alabama. Originally constructed to guide vessels through the treacherous Mobile Bay channel, it served as part of a range light system paired with a front light to help mariners maintain safe passage. The lighthouse is no longer active and is not open to the public, so visitors cannot climb the tower.

Despite limited access, the exterior and surrounding grounds make for compelling photography, especially during golden hour when warm light plays off the weathered structure against Mobile Bay. The best time to visit is fall through spring when Alabama’s coastal weather is mild.

Nearby attractions include Historic Fort Morgan, Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, and the Gulf Shores beaches just minutes away.
