Standing on the shores of Lake Champlain since 1856, Isle La Motte Light guides mariners through Vermont’s island-dotted waters. Note: Isle La Motte is actually located in Vermont, not New Hampshire, situated on one of the lake’s oldest inhabited islands.

This modest lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, its beacon continuing a tradition spanning over 160 years. While the lighthouse is not open to public access, photographers can capture striking images from nearby vantage points. The soft golden light of early morning or late afternoon provides optimal conditions, particularly during fall foliage season.

Visitors to the area can explore the Goodsell Ridge Fossil Preserve, featuring 480-million-year-old Chazy Reef formations, and St. Anne’s Shrine, marking Vermont’s earliest European settlement.
