Halfmoon Reef Light stands as a striking piece of Texas maritime history in Port Lavaca. Built in 1858, this screw-pile lighthouse originally guided vessels through treacherous Matagorda Bay before being relocated ashore to the Calhoun County Museum grounds. One of the few surviving screw-pile lighthouses in the United States, it’s a rare architectural gem of pre-Civil War coastal engineering. The lighthouse is not open for climbing, but its compact iron frame photographs beautifully from ground level — golden hour light against Lavaca Bay makes for stunning shots.
