Standing guard over Winyah Bay since 1801, Georgetown Light is one of the oldest lighthouses on the South Carolina coast. The tower was built to guide vessels navigating the busy rice trade routes into Georgetown Harbor, once one of the largest rice-exporting ports in the world.

Though the lighthouse remains an active navigational aid, it is not open to the public for climbing. Visitors can view the tower from the water via boat tours departing from Georgetown’s historic harborfront.

The best photography opportunities come during golden hour, when warm light reflects off Winyah Bay. Nearby, explore Georgetown’s charming Historic District, Hobcaw Barony wildlife preserve, and Huntington Beach State Park just down the coast.
