Christiana Light

Built in 1835 along the Christina River in Delaware, the Christiana Light served as a vital navigational aid for vessels traveling the river’s winding channels toward Wilmington. The lighthouse guided commercial traffic during a period of booming river trade in the mid-19th century. Now decommissioned, the light is no longer active and is not open to the public, so climbing the tower is not possible. Its weathered exterior and riverside setting make it a compelling subject for photographers, with golden hour light in early morning or late afternoon offering the best results. Nearby attractions include the Riverwalk in Wilmington, Brandywine Creek State Park, and the historic Old Swedes Church, one of the oldest churches in the United States.
