Algoma Pierhead Light

Algoma Pierhead Light

Lake Michigan · Wisconsin

Standing guard at the entrance to Algoma Harbor on Lake Michigan’s western shore, this Art Deco-style lighthouse has guided mariners since 1932. The striking red steel tower rises from the end of the north pier, replacing earlier navigation aids that served this historic fishing community. Still an active aid to navigation maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard, the lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed. Photographers find the best light at sunrise, when the tower glows against the lake backdrop. Visitors can view it from the pier or Crescent Beach. Nearby, explore Algoma’s charming downtown, Von Stiehl Winery, and the Ahnapee State Trail for scenic biking along the lakeshore.
