Somerset, Pennsylvania

One of Pennsylvania’s oldest surviving covered bridges, Walter’s Mill Bridge has spanned Coxes Creek since 1830. This historic structure features the distinctive Burr arch truss design—a combination of kingpost trusses reinforced by wooden arches—that was popular throughout the region in the early 19th century.

The bridge remains open to traffic today, carrying vehicles across the creek as it has for nearly two centuries. Its weathered wooden siding and pastoral setting make it a favorite among covered bridge enthusiasts.

Visiting Tips: Early morning offers the best photography light with minimal traffic. The surrounding countryside provides excellent backdrop opportunities. Visit in autumn when fall foliage frames the bridge beautifully. Parking is limited, so pull well off the roadway.
