Elephant Rocks State Park sits on 131 acres in Iron County, Missouri, where billion-year-old granite boulders stand end-to-end like a train of circus elephants — the formation that gives this park its name. These massive, rounded red granite stones, some standing up to 27 feet tall and weighing hundreds of tons, are among the oldest exposed rock in North America, formed from ancient volcanic activity during the Precambrian era.

A one-mile paved Braille Trail loops through the main boulder formation, making this one of Missouri’s most accessible parks. The trail includes tactile signs and guide ropes, welcoming visitors of all abilities to explore the rocks up close. Spring and fall deliver the most comfortable conditions for rock scrambling, though the shaded boulder corridors stay cool even in summer.
