Sprawling across 26,000 acres of rugged high desert terrain in Kern County, Eastern Kern County Onyx Ranch State Vehicular Recreation Area offers off-highway vehicle enthusiasts one of California’s most expansive and varied riding landscapes. Located near the small community of Cantil, this SVRA sits at the western edge of the Mojave Desert, where dramatic desert washes, rocky canyons, and open expanses create a natural playground for OHV riders of all skill levels.

The terrain here ranges from flat, sandy desert floors perfect for beginners to challenging hill climbs and technical trails that test experienced riders. Dirt bikes, ATVs, and side-by-sides all find plenty of room to roam across the park’s vast acreage. Beyond motorized recreation, visitors come for hiking, wildlife viewing, and stargazing — the remote desert location means remarkably dark skies after sunset.
