Clearwater Creek Wayside

Clearwater Creek Wayside

Alaska

Clearwater Creek Wayside sits at Mile 55.5 along the Denali Highway in Alaska, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This roadside stop serves as the primary access point for the Clearwater Creek South Trail, a popular route for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts exploring the surrounding backcountry.

The site offers basic amenities including accessible restrooms, picnic tables, and fire rings, making it a practical staging area for day trips or a rest stop along the gravel Denali Highway. OHV riders will find direct trail access into the expansive BLM lands beyond the wayside.

Dispersed camping is permitted on adjacent BLM lands, though the wayside itself functions primarily as a day-use area. Expect heavy summer traffic, particularly from mid-June through August when the Denali Highway is fully open. The remote location and dramatic Alaskan landscape make this an excellent spot for photography, especially during fall colors in late August and September.

Pack out all trash and follow Leave No Trace principles. The Denali Highway closes seasonally, so verify road conditions before planning your trip.
