Wind through one of Utah’s most beloved canyons on the Provo Canyon Scenic Byway, a state-designated route that carves between the towering peaks of the Wasatch Range. This drive follows the Provo River as it tumbles through a dramatic gorge of limestone cliffs, dense groves of maple and oak, and stands of quaking aspen that ignite in gold and crimson each autumn.

Begin near the shores of Utah Lake and climb steadily into the canyon, where Bridal Veil Falls cascades nearly 600 feet down sheer rock walls — one of the most photographed spots in the state. Continue past Sundance Mountain Resort, founded by Robert Redford, nestled against the slopes of Mount Timpanogos. The route emerges at the pristine Deer Creek Reservoir, framed by rolling mountains and wide-open sky, before connecting to the Heber Valley.

Pull over for fly fishing in the blue-ribbon Provo River, hiking trails into alpine meadows, or a scenic ride on the Heber Valley Railroad. Allow one to two hours for the drive with stops.

Visit in late September through mid-October for peak fall color, or in summer when the canyon offers cool relief from the valley heat.
