St. Johns River Light

St. Johns River Light

St. Johns River · Florida

Standing sentinel at Atlantic Beach, Florida, the St. Johns River Light has guided mariners since 1830, making it one of the oldest lighthouse sites on Florida’s Atlantic coast. Originally built to mark the mouth of the St. Johns River, the lighthouse served as a critical navigational aid for vessels entering one of the state’s most important waterways. Now decommissioned, the tower is no longer active and is not open to the public, so visitors cannot climb it. The best photography opportunities come during golden hour, when warm light contrasts beautifully against the tower. Nearby, visitors can enjoy Atlantic Beach’s sandy shores, the Hanna Park trails, and the historic Mayport fishing village just minutes away.
