St. Augustine Light (New)

Rising above Florida’s oldest city, the St. Augustine Light has guided mariners since 1874, replacing an earlier colonial-era tower. Its distinctive black-and-white spiral-striped daymark makes it one of the most photographed lighthouses on the Atlantic coast. The tower remains an active aid to navigation under Coast Guard operation and is not currently open to public climbing.

For the best photography, visit during golden hour when warm light accentuates the tower’s bold stripes against the coastal sky. Winter months offer dramatic cloud formations as a backdrop.

While on-site access is limited, the surrounding historic district offers plenty to explore, including Castillo de San Marcos, the colonial Quarter, and St. Augustine Beach just minutes away.
