Sanibel Island Light

Standing on the southern tip of Sanibel Island since 1884, the Sanibel Island Light is one of Florida’s first lighthouses on the Gulf Coast. Built to guide vessels into San Carlos Bay, the brown iron skeleton tower remains an active navigational aid operated by the U.S. Coast Guard. The lighthouse is not open to the public for climbing, but the surrounding grounds at Lighthouse Beach Park offer excellent views. Sunrise is the best time for photography, with the tower silhouetted against the Gulf sky. Nearby, visitors can explore the Sanibel Island fishing pier, stroll the beach for world-famous shelling, or visit the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge just minutes away.
