Standing on Morris Island, South Carolina, this historic lighthouse was built in 1871 as part of a range light system guiding ships into Charleston Harbor. The iron-pile structure has endured over 150 years of hurricanes, erosion, and shifting sands, becoming one of the most photographed landmarks along the South Carolina coast. Though still an active navigational aid, the lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed. Its isolated, water-surrounded setting makes it best photographed at sunrise or sunset from Folly Beach. Nearby attractions include Fort Sumter National Monument, the Folly Beach Pier, and the historic streets of downtown Charleston, all within a short drive.
