Standing at the mouth of the Rappahannock River in Virginia, Stingray Point Light has guided mariners since 1858. Named for the spot where Captain John Smith was reportedly stung by a stingray in 1608, the lighthouse carries deep colonial history. The original structure was damaged during the Civil War and later rebuilt as a caisson-style light. Now decommissioned, the lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it remains a striking sight from the water. Golden hour offers the best photography, with warm light reflecting off the Chesapeake Bay.
