Standing along the Delaware River in historic New Castle, Delaware, this rear range light was built in 1876 to guide maritime traffic through the busy shipping channel. The cast-iron tower worked in tandem with a front range light, helping vessels safely navigate the river approach. Though the light remains active as an aid to navigation, the tower is not open to the public and cannot be climbed. It’s best photographed during golden hour, when warm light plays off the iron structure against the river backdrop. Visitors should explore nearby Battery Park, the historic New Castle Court House Museum, and the charming cobblestone streets of one of America’s oldest continuously settled towns.
