Big Jacks Creek Wild and Scenic River cuts through dramatic canyon country in southwestern Idaho, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The creek flows between sheer and terraced canyon walls, creating a rugged landscape that supports redband trout populations and resident bighorn sheep herds.

Dispersed camping is permitted throughout BLM lands surrounding the river corridor, offering solitude-seekers primitive sites with no fees or reservations required. A limited trail network provides access into the canyon for hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Anglers target native redband trout in the creek’s cold waters, while photographers find ample subjects in the canyon’s geological features and wildlife.

Note that this section of river is not navigable by boat despite the “boating” designation—the terrain is too rugged for watercraft. Swimming holes exist but require hiking to reach. Hunting is permitted in season following Idaho regulations.

Access requires travel on remote dirt roads that may become impassable when wet. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable temperatures for camping, as summer heat in the canyon can be intense. High-clearance vehicles are recommended for reaching trailheads.
