Cleveland Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry, part of Jurassic National Monument, contains one of the world’s densest concentrations of Jurassic-era dinosaur fossils. The visitor center features accessible facilities with fossil displays, including Allosaurus specimens—the quarry’s most abundant find. Self-guided trails lead through the excavation area where scientists have unearthed over 12,000 bones since the 1920s.

Dispersed camping is permitted on surrounding BLM land, giving visitors the freedom to establish primitive campsites away from developed areas. The terrain is rugged sagebrush steppe with limited shade, so bring adequate shelter and water. Access requires travel on unpaved roads that can become impassable when wet.

Spring and fall provide the most comfortable conditions for camping and exploration. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, while winter brings cold nights and occasional snow. The visitor center operates seasonally, so check current hours before making the drive to this isolated paleontological treasure.
