Crown Point Light stands on the western shore of Lake Champlain in Crown Point, New York, where it has marked the narrow passage since 1858. Built of local stone, this compact sentinel guided vessels through one of the lake’s most strategic channels for decades before being decommissioned. Though no longer active and closed to public access, the lighthouse remains a striking photographic subject — best captured in early morning light when mist rises off the lake. The surrounding Crown Point State Historic Site, home to the ruins of two 18th-century forts (British and French), makes a visit worthwhile even without tower access. The Champlain Bridge and sweeping views toward Vermont’s Green Mountains complete the scene.
