Stratford Shoal Light

Rising from the waters of Long Island Sound east of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Stratford Shoal Light has guided mariners since 1877. This active lighthouse marks dangerous shoals midway between Connecticut and Long Island, making it a critical navigational aid for nearly 150 years.

The distinctive octagonal granite tower stands on a concrete foundation, showcasing classic Victorian-era lighthouse architecture. Its isolated mid-sound location makes it particularly striking—a solitary sentinel surrounded by open water.

Visitor Access: The lighthouse is not open to the public, but boat tours offer excellent views.

Photography: Golden hour provides dramatic lighting; calm summer mornings yield the best reflections.

Nearby Attractions: Bridgeport’s Seaside Park, the Barnum Museum, and Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo are short drives away.
