Spanning the West Branch of the Susquehanna River near Mahaffey, Pennsylvania, McGees Mills Covered Bridge has served travelers since 1873. This historic structure features a Burr arch truss design—a combination of wooden arch and multiple kingpost construction that was popular throughout Pennsylvania in the 19th century.

The bridge remains open to traffic today, allowing visitors to experience crossing through its weathered interior much as travelers did over 150 years ago.

Visiting Tips: Arrive during golden hour for the best photography, when warm light illuminates the bridge’s entrance. Park safely off the roadway and watch for vehicles when photographing. The surrounding rural landscape offers scenic backdrops year-round, with fall foliage being particularly striking.
