Standing on Peche Island off the western shore of Michigan, this rear range light was built in 1908 to guide vessels through the narrow channels of the upper Detroit River. The skeletal steel tower originally worked in tandem with a front range light to help mariners maintain safe passage. Still an active navigational aid, the light remains a distinctive silhouette against the waterway.

The lighthouse is not open to the public, and visitors cannot climb the tower. The island itself is accessible only by boat. Early morning and late afternoon light offer the best photography conditions, especially from the water. Nearby, visitors can explore the Detroit River’s rich maritime heritage and the parks along the Michigan shoreline.
