Tyler State Park

Tucked into the rolling countryside of Bucks County, Tyler State Park spreads across 1,711 acres of woodlands, open fields, and the winding Neshaminy Creek. Established in 1974, the park preserves a landscape that once served as a working farm, and you can still spot remnants of that agricultural past — stone walls, old barn foundations, and open meadows framed by mature hardwoods.

The Neshaminy Creek is the park’s centerpiece. Paddlers can canoe or kayak a gentle stretch of water that’s especially inviting in late spring and early fall. Anglers will find bass, sunfish, and the occasional stocked trout. Away from the water, 25 miles of multi-use trails wind through forests and fields, drawing hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. In winter, those same trails become popular for cross-country skiing when conditions cooperate.

Tyler is also one of the better disc golf destinations in southeastern Pennsylvania, with a well-regarded 18-hole course that weaves through mature trees. Families gravitate toward the picnic pavilions, playgrounds, and the 14-station fitness trail that follows the creek.

The best time to visit is mid-October, when Bucks County’s foliage peaks and the park’s mix of oaks, maples, and beeches puts on a spectacular show. Spring wildflower season, typically mid-April through May, is a quieter but equally rewarding window.

Tyler State Park sits just 30 minutes north of Philadelphia, making it an easy day trip for anyone looking to trade pavement for creek-side trails without a long drive.
