Carolina Beach State Park
Tucked along the Cape Fear River on the North Carolina coast, Carolina Beach State Park packs remarkable ecological diversity into its 761 acres. Established in 1969, this coastal gem is best known for its carnivorous plants — including the Venus flytrap, which grows wild in only a narrow band around Wilmington. The park sits just minutes from the town of Carolina Beach, making it easy to pair a day on the trails with an evening on the boardwalk. Birdwatchers will find the marsh edges productive for spotting herons, osprey, and painted buntings during warmer months.
