Tucked along the eastern shore of Lake Wentworth in Carroll County, New Hampshire, this compact 50-acre state park punches well above its size. Wentworth State Park centers on a sandy freshwater beach that draws families and day-trippers throughout the summer months, offering one of the region’s most accessible lakefront swimming spots without the crowds of nearby Wolfeboro’s town beach.

The park’s real draw is its direct access to Lake Wentworth — a clean, spring-fed lake ideal for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding. A designated swimming area with a gradual sandy bottom makes it particularly well-suited for families with young children. Picnic tables and grills are scattered beneath mature shade trees, creating a natural setup for full-day outings.

Beyond the beach, a network of short trails winds through mixed hardwood forest, offering easy walks suited to all fitness levels. Birdwatchers will find the wooded lake margin productive, especially during fall migration when warblers move through the canopy.

The park operates seasonally, typically from late June through Labor Day, with the warmest swimming conditions in July and August. Early September visits reward with thinner crowds and the first hints of New England foliage reflected off the lake’s surface.
