The Owyhee Uplands Back Country Byway stretches 103 miles through remote high desert terrain in southwestern Idaho, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This rugged route traverses sagebrush flats, rolling grasslands, and dramatic red-walled river canyons carved into volcanic rock.

Dispersed camping is permitted on adjacent BLM lands, giving visitors flexibility to find solitary sites along the route. Spring and fall provide the most comfortable conditions, with moderate temperatures and wildflower blooms in April and May. Summer brings intense heat, while winter snow can close sections entirely.
