Goldbug Hot Springs offers one of Idaho‘s most rewarding natural hot spring experiences, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The trail to the springs begins at the end of a county road, requiring a moderately steep 2-mile hike through scenic canyon terrain. The first quarter-mile crosses private property via public easement—dogs must remain leashed through this section to protect continued access.

Multiple soaking pools cascade down the hillside, ranging from hot to warm temperatures depending on pool location and recent weather. Dispersed camping is available on adjacent BLM land near the trailhead, with no developed facilities or fees. Visitors should pack out all trash and practice Leave No Trace principles.

Beyond soaking, the area supports fishing in nearby streams, wildlife viewing, hunting in season, and photography opportunities throughout the canyon landscape. The hike itself rewards with sweeping views of the Salmon River Mountains.

Visit during spring or fall for comfortable hiking temperatures and fewer crowds. Winter access is possible but requires appropriate gear for snow-covered trails. Summer weekends draw significant traffic—arrive early for parking and quieter soaking.
