Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Gold Belt Recreation Management Area in Colorado offers rugged terrain along the historic Gold Belt Tour National Scenic Byway—a 131-mile loop that follows old narrow-gauge railroad beds and stage roads through former gold mining country near Cripple Creek.

The area supports dispersed camping on BLM lands, allowing visitors to set up camp outside developed sites with standard 14-day stay limits. Developed camping facilities are also available for those preferring established amenities. High-clearance vehicles are recommended for many backcountry roads, though the main byway routes are generally accessible to standard vehicles.

Recreation opportunities include hiking and biking on designated trails, rock climbing, fishing in area streams, and horseback riding. Hunters utilize the area during Colorado’s big game seasons. The BLM offers interpretive programs highlighting the region’s mining heritage and natural history.
