Crocodile Staging Area

Crocodile Staging Area

Utah

Crocodile Staging Area serves as a gateway to the Hog Canyon OHV Trail System and John R Flat area in southern Utah‘s high desert landscape. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, this staging area provides a vault toilet, picnic table, and parking—ideal for launching multi-day adventures into the surrounding backcountry.

The trail system accommodates a range of activities including ATV/UTV riding, mountain biking, horseback riding, and hiking. Hunters frequent the area during season, and the open terrain offers excellent wildlife viewing and photography opportunities. Dispersed camping is permitted on adjacent BLM lands, allowing visitors to set up camp in undeveloped areas away from the staging lot itself.

Access is via maintained dirt roads suitable for most vehicles in dry conditions. High-clearance vehicles are recommended after rain. The Kanab Visitor Center provides detailed maps and current trail conditions.

Spring and fall offer the most comfortable temperatures for camping and exploration, though the area remains accessible year-round. Visitors should note that private land borders the staging area—stay on designated routes and respect property boundaries. Bring all supplies, as no water or services are available on-site.
