Aden Hills Off-Highway Vehicle Area offers 8,700 acres of open desert terrain in southern New Mexico, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This designated OHV area allows unrestricted off-road travel across Chihuahuan Desert landscape featuring creosote-stabilized coppice dunes, mesquite flats, and scattered yucca and cacti.

Dispersed camping is permitted throughout the area, with no developed campgrounds or amenities. Visitors should arrive fully self-sufficient with water, fuel, and supplies. The remote location means no services are nearby, so plan accordingly.

The terrain suits motorcycles, ATVs, and 4×4 vehicles looking for open riding without designated trails. The area occasionally hosts organized motorcycle races through BLM special permits. Outside of events, expect a quiet, uncrowded experience.

Access is via unpaved roads south of Las Cruces. High-clearance vehicles are recommended, especially after rain when sandy sections can become challenging.

Best visiting seasons are fall through spring when temperatures are moderate. Summer brings extreme heat that makes desert camping uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. Winter nights can drop near freezing, so bring appropriate gear.
