Moraine State Park sprawls across 16,725 acres in Butler County, Pennsylvania, built around the stunning 3,225-acre Lake Arthur — one of the largest lakes in western Pennsylvania. Established in 1970, the park transformed what was once heavily mined and drilled land into a showcase of environmental reclamation that now ranks among the state’s most visited destinations.

Lake Arthur is the centerpiece, offering sailing, kayaking, canoeing, and motorboating across its seven-mile length. Two public beaches — Pleasant Valley and Lakeview — provide swimming from late May through September. Anglers will find walleye, largemouth bass, muskellunge, and crappie throughout the lake’s varied structure.

Beyond the water, over 40 miles of trails wind through glacial landscapes shaped during the last Ice Age.
