Mollidgewock State Park
New Hampshire (Coös County)
Tucked along the upper Androscoggin River in Coös County, Mollidgewock State Park offers a quiet retreat into New Hampshire’s rugged North Country. At just 46 acres, this compact state park punches above its weight as a basecamp for exploring the wild, less-trafficked corner of the Granite State.
The park’s riverside setting is its defining feature. The Androscoggin flows right through, making it a prime spot for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing — brook trout and landlocked salmon draw anglers throughout the season. Launch directly from the park and paddle stretches of river that feel genuinely remote, with moose sightings along the banks more common than encounters with other paddlers.
Mollidgewock’s campground keeps things simple and unhurried, with wooded sites that provide solid privacy and direct access to the river. This isn’t a manicured resort-style campground — it’s the kind of place where you fall asleep to moving water and wake up to loons. Sites fill on peak summer weekends but rarely feel crowded.
Beyond the water, the surrounding Coös County landscape opens up hiking, wildlife watching, and some of the best stargazing in New England. The park sits within easy reach of Dixville Notch and the Connecticut Lakes region, making it a strong hub for day trips deeper into the North Woods.
Visit between late June and early September for the warmest weather and best river conditions. Come in late September if you want fall color without the White Mountains crowds.
