Spanning 1,109 acres across the towns of Lowell, Dracut, and Tyngsboro in Middlesex County, Lowell-Dracut-Tyngsboro State Forest offers a surprisingly wild escape just minutes from the urban core of Greater Lowell. This state forest is defined by its varied terrain — glacial eskers, kettle ponds, and mixed hardwood-pine forests create a landscape shaped by the last ice age and preserved for public enjoyment.

The trail network here rewards exploration. Miles of unpaved paths wind through oak and white pine stands, past vernal pools, and along the shores of several small ponds. Mountain biking is popular on the wider fire roads, while hikers appreciate the quieter single-track trails that thread through denser forest.
