The centerpiece is Holman Lake, an 88-acre reservoir popular with anglers chasing bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. Non-powered and electric boats are welcome, making it ideal for kayaking and canoeing without the noise of motorboats. A swimming pool operates during summer months for those who prefer a more structured swim.

Hikers will find roughly 10 miles of trails winding through mixed hardwood forests and along the creek. The Middle Ridge Trail offers moderate terrain with rewarding views, while the Exercise Trail near the lake suits families with younger children. In winter, these same paths open up for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing when conditions allow.

History buffs should seek out the restored Shoaff’s Mill and the covered bridge near the park entrance — both remnants of Perry County’s agricultural past that add genuine character to the landscape.

Fall is arguably the best season to visit, when the surrounding hardwoods light up in orange and gold and summer crowds thin out. Spring wildflower displays along the creek are equally worth the trip.

Perry County doesn’t draw the tourist traffic of the Poconos or Laurel Highlands, and that’s precisely the point. Little Buffalo rewards visitors who prefer solitude over spectacle.
