Green Lakes State Park sits in the heart of Central New York, where two glacial lakes glow an almost unreal shade of turquoise. Round Lake’s trail is quieter and more wooded — a good pick if you want solitude.

Swimming is available at the designated beach on Green Lake during summer months, and the park operates an 18-hole golf course that draws locals year-round. Fishing, paddling, and cross-country skiing fill out the seasonal calendar. Picnic pavilions and playgrounds make it practical for families.

Late spring through early fall is the sweet spot for visiting. The lake colors are most vivid under direct sun in June and July, but September brings fall foliage that frames the turquoise water beautifully. Arrive early on summer weekends — the parking lot fills fast.
