Crowder State Park

Crowder State Park

Missouri (Grundy County)

About This Park

This recreation area is part of Eufaula Lake

Sprawling across 1,912 acres in Grundy County, Crowder State Park offers a quiet retreat into the rolling prairies and wooded hills of northern Missouri. Named after Major General Enoch Crowder — a Grundy County native who served as the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate General — the park blends natural beauty with a thread of local history that gives it genuine character.

The landscape here shifts between open grasslands and dense hardwood forests, making it one of the more visually varied parks in the region. Hikers will find over 17 miles of trails winding through timber-covered ridges and along Thompson River bottomlands. The trails range from easy loops to longer routes that reward with seasonal wildflower displays in spring and rich fall color come October.

Fishing is a draw at the park’s two small lakes, where bass and catfish keep anglers busy. Equestrians get dedicated trails and a campground with tie stalls — a welcome feature for riders exploring northern Missouri. The main campground offers both basic and electric sites nestled among the trees, with enough spacing to feel genuinely secluded rather than stacked on top of your neighbors.

Spring and fall are the sweet spots for visiting. Summers can run hot and humid, though the tree canopy provides relief on the woodland trails. Winter brings a stark, quiet beauty and near-empty campsites for those who don’t mind the cold.

Crowder won’t overwhelm you with crowds or attractions — and that’s exactly the point.
