Nestled in Lithia, just 30 minutes southeast of Tampa in Hillsborough County, Alafia River State Park spans 6,312 acres of reclaimed phosphate mining land that has transformed into one of Florida’s most unique outdoor destinations. Established in 1996, this park has earned an impressive 4.8-star rating from over 2,000 visitors—and for good reason.

What sets Alafia apart is its terrain. Unlike Florida’s typically flat landscape, the former mining pits have created rolling hills, deep ravines, and varied elevations that feel almost out of place in the Sunshine State. This topography makes it a premier destination for mountain biking, with over 20 miles of trails ranging from beginner-friendly paths to expert-level technical routes that draw cyclists from across the Southeast.
