Grand Lake St. Marys State Park is an incredible destination for year-round recreation in Ohio. With 13,500 acres of lake and park facilities, visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, and hunting.

The park is located in Mercer and Auglaize counties, and is the largest inland lake in Ohio in terms of area. While the lake may be shallow, with an average depth of only 5-7 feet, it’s perfect for water skiing and other water sports.

Great Council State Park

Have you heard about the upcoming Great Council State Park in Ohio? This state park, set to open in 2023, will be a wonderful addition to the already impressive list of state parks in Ohio.

The park will be located in the Oldtown area of Xenia Township, Greene County, and will honor Tecumseh, the Shawnee leader who became an iconic folk hero in American, Indigenous, and Canadian history.

The park will educate the public about Tecumseh and the Shawnee people, and its focal point will be a 6,000 to 7,000 square foot interpretive center, inspired by the traditional council house form used by the Shawnee.

The location of the park was chosen due to the Shawnee history in the area, and it will be developed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in coordination with the Ohio History Connection, the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, the Shawnee Tribe, and the Absentee Shawnee.

We can’t wait to explore this new state park and learn more about the rich history of Ohio!
