West Point Light
West Point · Washington
Perched along the Hudson River at the United States Military Academy, West Point Light has stood watch since 1853. This modest stone lighthouse guided river traffic through one of the Hudson’s most strategic and treacherous bends during the age of steamboat commerce.
Though no longer active as a navigational aid, the lighthouse remains a striking landmark against the dramatic West Point bluffs. The tower is not open to the public or available for climbing, as it sits within the military academy grounds.
Photographers find the best light during golden hour, when the Hudson reflects warm tones against the stone tower. Nearby, visitors can explore the West Point Museum, Trophy Point, and the stunning Hudson Highlands hiking trails.
