Manistique East Breakwater Light

Standing guard at the entrance to Manistique Harbor on Lake Michigan’s northern shore, this steel-towered lighthouse has guided mariners since 1915. The square, red-painted tower sits at the end of a concrete breakwater, still serving as an active navigational aid maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard. While the lighthouse is not open to the public and visitors cannot climb the tower, it remains a favorite subject for photographers. Golden hour and winter ice formations along the breakwater create especially dramatic shots. The walkable breakwater offers close-up views year-round. Nearby, visitors can explore the Siphon Bridge, Kitch-iti-kipi (Big Spring) at Palms Book State Park, and the charming downtown Manistique boardwalk along the Indian River.
