Lake Buchanan Light
Texas Highland Lake · Texas
Standing along the shores of Lake Buchanan near Buchanan Dam, Texas, this inland lighthouse was built in 1984 as a decorative navigational marker on the Texas Highland Lakes chain. Unlike coastal lighthouses, it serves as a charming lakeside landmark rather than a traditional maritime aid. The light is no longer active and is not open to public climbing or interior access.
The tower makes an excellent photography subject, particularly during golden hour when the warm Texas light reflects off Lake Buchanan’s waters. Fall and spring offer the most comfortable conditions and dramatic skies.
Nearby, visitors can explore Inks Lake State Park, the Vanishing Texas River Cruise, and the scenic wineries along the Texas Wine Trail.
