Nestled in Nebraska City in Otoe County, Arbor Lodge State Historical Park preserves the 73.85-acre estate of J. Sterling Morton, founder of Arbor Day. The stunning 52-room Neo-Colonial mansion sits at the heart of the grounds, offering guided tours that walk visitors through the life of the man who convinced a nation to plant trees. The mansion’s period furnishings and personal artifacts make it one of Nebraska’s most intimate historical experiences.

The surrounding grounds are the real showpiece. Morton’s legacy lives in every direction — towering oaks, elms, and pines shade a remarkable arboretum featuring more than 250 varieties of trees and shrubs.
