Long Branch State Park stretches across 1,828 acres of rolling Macon County countryside in north-central Missouri, built around the 2,430-acre Long Branch Lake. The park sits where open prairie meets hardwood forest, giving visitors two distinct landscapes to explore in a single trip.

The lake is the main draw. Anglers come for channel catfish, largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill, with boat ramps and a marina making water access straightforward. If you’re not fishing, the swimming beach offers a solid spot to cool off during Missouri’s humid summers. Kayakers and canoeists will find the lake’s coves and inlets worth paddling through, especially in early morning when the water is glass-still.

On land, several miles of trails wind through bottomland forest and across open meadows. Spring wildflower displays are genuinely impressive here — the prairie remnants light up with coneflower, blazing star, and black-eyed Susan from May through September.
