North Desert encompasses BLM-managed terrain on the north side of Colorado‘s Grand Valley, stretching from Grand Junction and Fruita west toward Rabbit Valley and the Utah Rims. This area is purpose-built for motorized recreation, with designated routes accommodating motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, and full-sized 4×4 vehicles across varied desert landscape.

The trail system offers multiple long-distance loop opportunities, connecting riders to an extensive network that spans the region. All travel is restricted to designated routes, so bring a current trail map or GPS with updated tracks.

Dispersed camping is permitted on BLM land outside of developed areas, making this a practical basecamp for multi-day OHV adventures. No facilities exist beyond basic OHV staging areas, so pack all water, fuel, and supplies.

Access points near Fruita and Grand Junction provide easy entry from Interstate 70. The high desert terrain features rocky washes, slickrock sections, and sandy flats typical of western Colorado.

Spring and fall offer the most comfortable riding conditions. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, while winter can bring snow and icy trails at higher elevations.
