Little Wood River Wilderness Study Area spans rugged mountainous terrain in south-central Idaho, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The landscape features steep drainages carved through high desert country, with the Little Wood River corridor lined by cottonwoods and willows providing a striking contrast to the surrounding sagebrush slopes.

Dispersed camping is permitted throughout the study area, allowing visitors to establish primitive campsites away from developed facilities. The canyon bottoms along the river offer the most sheltered camping spots, though access requires navigating rough terrain. Hiking trails wind through the drainages, and the area is popular with horseback riders who can cover more ground across the expansive backcountry.

Hunters frequent the area for mule deer, while wildlife viewers and photographers target blue grouse, sage grouse, and various raptors that nest in the riverside cottonwoods. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable conditions, as summer temperatures climb and winter brings snow to higher elevations.

Visitors should arrive prepared with adequate water, detailed maps, and high-clearance vehicles for access roads. Cell service is unreliable throughout the study area.
